The easy way to clean out your closet without getting overwhelmed

This week is National Clean Out Your Closet Week.

It always takes place during the third week of March and it's a great way to kickstart your spring cleaning!

You may think this will be a daunting task, but I have an easy way to help you!

I love this thought below, attributed to Amy Fine Collins, journalist and special correspondent for Vanity Fair.

I think this is EXACTLY how we should think about our closets!

However, sometimes we get so used to our clutter that we don't even see it anymore.

So taking a good look in your closet once or twice a year is a great way to take stock of what you really have in there.

Then have an easy way to get rid of those things that you no longer want.

Ready?

Set your timer today for 15 minutes (or maybe 30...).

Take an objective inventory of your closet.

You already know about that shirt that's never fit quite right. Those itchy wool pants. Those jeans from high school you tell yourself every year you will get back into. 👖 That favorite shirt that has the mustard stain you can't get rid of... 👚

GET RID OF THEM!

If they are still useable, donate them. If not, trash them.

Once you are done, tuck a garbage bag or box in your closet.

Then every time you find something else that doesn't fit or is not worth keeping, toss it in the bag/box.

It is super convenient and you can keep better control of what stays in your closet from now on!

When the box is full, donate or trash the clothes in there ASAP and then put the empty box back in the closet, ready for more items.

It will really help you keep on top of the clutter that can creep into your closet over time, taking away valuable space from those things you do want in there.

When your space is neat and clean, you feel less stressed and calmer, since everything in it is something you like!

And, after all, isn't that what we'd really like to feel in our closet? 😊

When people find out I'm a professional organizer, they often say, "Gee, I bet your house looks like something out of Better Homes and Gardens. You probably don't even HAVE a junk drawer." And after I stop laughing 🤣, I explain that I am in a constant battle with dust bunnies (some weeks they win, some weeks I do 🤷🏼♀️), and not only do I absolutely have a junk drawer in my kitchen... I have TWO! Personally, I wish we didn't call them junk drawers - I prefer to call them the "odds & ends"...
